Research in the laboratory explores the neurophysiological foundations of visual perception. We use single-cell recording in behaving monkey combined with psychophysics and computational modeling. Current projects focus on the mechanisms of figure-ground organization and 3D shape perception, and on the interaction between figure-ground and attentional mechanisms. Students of physics and engineering are encouraged to apply. Excellent training will be offered. Graduate ProgramsOur primary resource for Ph.D. training is the Neuroscience Graduate Program. We can also accept students from other programs, such as Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psychological and Brain Sciences and Biophysics. Scholarships are available. Undergraduate ResearchUndergraduate students majoring in Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins can do research in the lab for credit.
